Observations: The artist is toying with the idea of the depiction of nature in art, taking a powerful symbol - the eagle - and reducing it to an entry in an encyclopedia. He contrast the 'book learning' of the European system with the direct experience of nature depicted in the 19th century photographs of Native Peoples.
