Observations: In this painting, Maracle moves toward abstraction. A child in her mother's dress, she has lost the shoes that complete her costume. Through simplified lines and large block of unmixed colour, the content becomes abstracted and must be deciphered. Rough, simple, and compelling, like all of Maracle's subjects, this figure is of native ethnicity, and perhaps represents the curiosity all children have about adult life.
