Observations: A good example nature transformed into myth - the beaver becomes the spirit of the builder. The painting also illustrates the 'x-ray' technique Norval was evolving at this time, going into the body of the subject and depicting the heart, lungs, backbone, and tail; transforming the physical into the spiritual. The soul of the being resides within. This piece is dated to the early 1970s, and was given by Norval to his cab driver in Coboconk in lieu of fares.
