Observations: Typical of Norval's work from the 1960s, the palette here is muted and derived from the Lake Nipigon petroglyphs. The symbol of the owls represents wisdom, and their depiction here is simultaneously child-like and drawn with a decisive line. The power lines which bind the two figures together relate to Morrisseau's strong belief in universality and the power of nature. To eat the flesh of an animal was not merely for sustenance but also for spiritual power.
