Observations: Morrisseau's totem image, the Thunderbird, is a kind of spiritual self-portrait. The movement in this painting seems fragmented as the figure disappears off to the right of the canvas. Vividly depicted on a luminous blue ground, this recurring theme is handled here with mastery of colour and line.
