Observations: Extremely early portrait of Ojibwe wisdom symbol, dating from the early 1960s. At this time in Norval's work, the chromatic field was based strongly on the pigments used in the Lake Nipigon petroglyphs - various shades of brown and ochre, muted now with age, and a strong black outline. Sourced directly from Red Lake, it is a rare and very early work by this Canadian master artist. Museum mounted.
