Observations:

Spring Ice- Costello Lake.
As spring progresses the ice tends to sink slowly and 'bow'. I was out and about in the S-E end of Algonquin and stopped by Costello Lake. It's on the way into Lake Opeongo and I stopped to have a look. I found the heavy grey skies and purpled terrain of the distant shoreline (mostly white birch) a beautiful compliment to the sinking ice. The day was damp with the expectation of precipitation but it held off for some hours so I could complete this sketch. It's something to spend enough time in the bush to notice the tiny triumphs of seasonal changes, the swelling of buds, the sinking of winter ice back into the lake and sudden bare patches appearing after months of snow. The best time in Algonquin is 'any' time.
